VA Gov. Warner Signs Prop. 200 Type Bill

FAIR NEWS FLASH

Virginia Governor Mark Warner (D) signed a measure this afternoon cutting off illegal aliens' access to public benefits. The bill limits illegal aliens access to state services, much like Arizona's Prop. 200. "The measure would require that both state and local governments verify the legal presence of an immigrant before providing any nonemergency public benefits. Local governments said the bill would require them to deny access to subsidized health care, free clinics and homeless shelters for adult aliens," according to the Washington Times today.

Thank God, a politician with some good sense...and a Democrat at that!

Perhaps we are FINALLY starting to turn the corner and back away from national suicide, financial madness and plain old folly on the immigration front!

Let us hope so!

Wow! Here are elected officials actually voting to do something for the citizens of their state. Now this is good news!

I’m trapped in California, and can only imagine how great that must feel to have your elected officials voting to protect you from excessive taxes caused by illegal immigrants.

I’m trying to escape from California because here we give them everything and more… all at the expense of the citizen’s wallet. The illegal immigrants have ruined our schools, medical system, and basic infrastructures that once made California great. Oh! Do I envy you!

Again Virginia, congratulations!

I've never seen a Democrat sign a common sense bill like this. Are the Democrats finally tired of being a minority party?

Homeless illegal aliens? That's a non-sequiter. They have a home; it's just not in the United States! I certainly wouldn't deny them emergency shelter in the dead of winter, but I would get them on a bus back to Tijuana or wherever to make that shelter bed available for someone more deserving such as a homeless ex-GI.

Can we get Gov. Warner to come and speak to the foolish Democrats in Colorado? They recently killed a bill that would have done what Gov. Warner just accomplished in Virginia. Now the citizens of CO will be forced to get an amendment on to the November 2006 ballot. We will succeed, one way or another!

You guys are giving Gov. Warner far too much credit! The Republican controlled Virginia State Legislature passed this bill with a VETO PROOF MAJORITY so Warner had little choice but to sign it.

He has vetoed several other good pieces of anti-illegal immigration legislation. He deserves to be kicked out of office.

Not to rain on the parade-- At this point in time, the three northern counties (Fairfax, Arlington, ?) in VA have requested that they be exempt from this law. They have too much "found" money from the increased real estate taxes and need to keep these rat holes to throw it down. Once again the minority is able to thwart what the majority wishes and have them pay for it :-(.

Seems Gov. Warner may have the good sense to avoid the woes of LA County where a State audit released in the LA Daily News today reveals how the illegal alien can disrupt the health care needs of an entire metro County with a population the size of LA. What an eye opener to public officials everywhere who should have their legal constituency to worry about....not illegals.

A step in the right direction, congrats VA. Now we need to control the influx at the mexican/american border.
