Sen. Coryn To Chair Senate Immigration Committee

"U.S. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas will head the Senate's immigration subcommittee, placing him at the center of a struggle among his fellow Republicans over one of President Bush's top policy priorities," the Houston Chronicle says. "Many House conservatives oppose Cornyn's immigration-reform bill, which mirrors Bush's proposal to grant guest-worker visas to illegal immigrants already in the United States. Also, some Democrats have complained that Cornyn's plan may not grant appropriate status to legal immigrants rooted in this country with families and longtime jobs."
