AGJOBS BILL STALLED IN CONGRESS With under a month left in this session of Congress, the so-called AgJOBS bill appears to be stalled despite furious maneuvering in recent days. Last Wednesday, Sen. Craig (R-ID) tried unsuccessfully to tack it on as an amendment to an unrelated class-action lawsuit reform bill. But with 63 on-the-record supporters of the bill, it is still possible it could be passed. Opponents cite the bill as a broad-based amnesty program which would grant permanent legal residency to millions of illegal immigrants. "There's nothing to say that if we legalize all these illegal workers, they won't simply be replaced by the next wave of illegal immigrants," Ira Mehlman of FAIR told the Sacramento Bee. |
