NEW PROP. 187 BEING DRAFTED


"A day before the governor is to repeal an unpopular law that would have allowed illegal immigrants to apply for California driver's licenses, state officials Tuesday announced that a grass-roots group could begin petitioning for a measure to ban public benefits -- including driver's licenses -- to those who could not prove their legal status in the country," the San Jose Mercury News reports. "Save Our State, the organization that spearheaded Proposition 187, is now floating a new proposal to curtail public benefits to the estimated 2.2 million illegal immigrants in California."
