ILLINOIS GOVERNOR SIGNS IN-STATE TUITION BILL FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS

Gov. Rod Blagojevich has signed legislation entitling illegal aliens who live in Illinois to subsidized in-state rates at public universities. The law is expected to cost Illinois taxpayers about $3 million a year and affect some 2,000 illegal aliens attending Illinois’ public universities. In signing the bill, Blagojevich acknowledged that mass illegal immigration is a problem, “But that’s no excuse to deny an American dream,” he said. One of the illegal aliens affected by the law who was present at the signing ceremony declared, “This is just a small victory,” that hopefully will lead to more rights for illegal aliens. Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for FAIR, however, asserted that the new policy in Illinois and other states “sends the wrong message. It’s just one more indication that if you can get into the U.S. illegally, you will be rewarded.”
