'OPERATION BROKEN VOWS' CASES COULD GO FOR YEARS

"Prosecutors say it could take years to close all of the cases tied to marriage scams uncovered in Operation Broken Vows," the Greenville News reported. "Authorities say the fraudulent marriage ring operated in [Upstate South Carolina] from 1998 to 2002. Women charged in the case were paid up to $6,000 for marriages to mostly Pakistani men, McDonald said. So far, 134 people have been convicted on charges of conspiracy to arrange fraudulent marriages in violation of federal law or entering into fraudulent marriages themselves."
