COOK COUNTY CONSIDERS NON-MEXICAN CONSULAR CARDS
Cook County, Ill. is considering accepting other countries' consular ID cards. Responding to the campaign by the Mexican government to have its consular ID card accepted in the U.S., other Central and South American nations that send millions of illegal aliens to the U.S. are following suit. "Cook County Commissioner Roberto Maldonado will introduce an ordinance at Thursday's board meeting to accept cards like Mexico's matricula consular as long as they meet its strict security standards," the Chicago Tribune reported. "Maldonado announced his proposed ordinance at a news conference Wednesday surrounded by officials from the consular offices for the Philippines and several Latin American countries, including Honduras, Uruguay and Brazil."
