MASS. PAPER FOCUSES ON IMMIGRATION
The Sunday Telegram in Worcester Massachusetts had a series of stories over the weekend focusing on immigration. In 'Today's Immigration under the microscope,' the paper reports on the demographic reality of today's over-immigration. In 'State slashed immigrant aid,' the focus is on how fiscal austerity is eliminating financial benefits for immigrants in the budget. Immigrant groups protested the cuts, but "When immigrants come to the United States, the public expects them to pull their own weight and take care of themselves on the way to citizenship," FAIR spokesman David Ray pointed out. 'Children of illegals face challenges' presents stories designed to generate sympathy for illegal immigration. The Telegram looks at the employment situation for illegal alien children in the U.S. Despite their low wages, they are hardly a bargain, FAIR spokesman Ira Mehlman noted. "All the basic services have to be provided [to them]," he noted. "We (FAIR) have been maintaining for a long time that it's not cheap labor, it's subsidized labor. But the real costs are passed along to everyone else."
