HIJACK SUSPECT STUDIED IN S.C., GOT DRIVER'S LICENSE, FBI IGNORED WARNING
Kerim Chatty, arrested in Sweden on hijacking charges, attended flight school in South Carolina. In addition, The Sun newspaper reports, his flight instructor "alerted FBI agents to Kerim Chatty nearly a YEAR ago, because she feared he might try a September 11-style atrocity." Chatty never picked up his pilots license after completing training. According to the Sun, "Chatty moved to South Carolina six years ago to start a £21,000 six-month pilot course at North American Institute of Aviation. He got a student pilot permit in July 1996, entitling him to start a course for a commercial license. . . He also held a South Carolina driver's license with an address of 1700 Airport Road, the location of the NAIA (North American Institute of Aviation) office."
